As a food photographer, it’s always exciting to have a new project, and this time, our subject was pies. We were tasked with capturing the perfect shot of these delicious treats to showcase them on a package design. In this blog post, we’ll take you behind the scenes of this pie food photography shoot and show you the techniques and tricks we used to get the perfect shot.
Before the shoot day, we met with the creative agency and discussed the client’s needs and vision. They required the pies to be photographed at a 30-degree angle on a wooden surface with a neutral background, so they could easily be composed onto the package design.
On the day of the shoot, we set up the studio area on location with the chosen wooden surface and a neutral black background, as it was intended to be replaced in post production based on the packaging type. We ensured the lighting was just right to enhance the natural beauty of the pies.
We started by styling the pies, adding garnishes and toppings to make them look as appetizing as possible. We took care to ensure that each pie’s details, such as the crust and filling, were perfectly presented.
At the start we experimented with different angles and compositions, moving the pies around to capture the perfect shot. We used a 30-degree angle to create a dynamic and interesting image, while the wooden surface added warmth and texture to the shot. We also used various lighting techniques to create depth and dimension in the images.
Throughout the shoot, we shot teathered to a computer, allowing us to see the images on the fly and make adjustments as needed. We also took care to capture images consistently so that they could easily be composed onto the package design later.
Once we had captured the images, we handed them over to the agency, who composed them onto the package design. By using a neutral background, we gave the agency the flexibility to add their own design elements and make the package look even more enticing.
Overall, this pie food photography shoot was a fun and challenging project that required us to use our technical skills and creativity to capture the perfect shot. We hope this behind-the-scenes look has given you a sense of the process and the attention to detail required for successful food photography.
